Updates for 2023

The Jeep Cherokee has several updates for the 2023 model year, including a new trim level line up, which means that the Cherokee now has two trim levels: the Altitude Lux and Trailhawk trim levels. The Cherokee also revised its powertrain offerings by eliminating the front-wheel drive models and the V6 engine. This revision makes the 180-horsepower 4-cylinder standard on the Altitude Lux and the 270-horsepower turbo-four standard on the Trailhawk.

The Mitsubishi Outlander is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a 40th Anniversary Edition trim that also debuts alongside the Ralliart limited-edition model.

Performance

The 2023 Jeep Cherokee has impressive off-roading abilities. The Cherokee also has two powertrain options, with the base engine being a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. The available engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. The Cherokee also provides confident handling, adequate stopping power, and good gas mileage. When properly equipped, the Cherokee can tow up to 4,000 pounds.

The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander has only one engine available: the 181-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 181 lb-ft of torque. However, critics found that the ride handling can be harsh, and the engine, while decent for most driving experiences, can sometimes be underwhelming. In addition, the Outlander tows less than the Cherokee by only towing up to 2,000 pounds when properly equipped.

Interior

The Jeep Cherokee has a functional interior that can seat up to five passengers. It comes standard with a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, and eight-way power-adjustable heated front seats; the Cherokee also has the option to add features like driver’s seat memory settings, cloth upholstery, and ventilated front seats. The interior is spacious and comfortable, no matter if you’re driving to work or on a long road trip. There is also plenty of storage space for groceries and luggage, with 25.8 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 54.7 cubic feet with the rear row folded down. The interior is also paired with an easy-to-use 8.4-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster display.

The Mitsubishi Outlander is a three-row SUV that can seat up to seven passengers; however, critics found that the second and third rows were cramped and uncomfortable. The Outlander only offers 11.7 cubic feet of space behind the rear row,33.5 cubic feet of space with the rear folded down, and while the Outlander does have an impressive maximum cargo area, it falters on comfort. In addition, the Outlander’s standard features aren’t as impressive compared to the Cherokee.
